Seeing the Possibilities 

10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania is once again presenting its signature program, the Commonwealth Awards, to honor and celebrate great projects and the people who make them happen. Partnering with us this year to Co-Chair the event is the Pennsylvania Builders Association – the voice of the housing industry in Pennsylvania.  We hope that you will want to be a part of the 2011 event.  

Designing the Future 

At 10,000 Friends, we are energized by the growing number of smart, innovative projects in Pennsylvania that are shaping our future growth and prosperity–the kinds of investments that breathe new life into declining neighborhoods, increase opportunities in communities on the rise, and find new uses for vacant manufacturing sites. The past several years have demonstrated that in difficult economic times, great projects and outstanding leadership are more important than ever.

That’s Leadership 

The 2011 Friend of Pennsylvania award will be presented at this event.  As you know, Pennsylvania is still facing vexing, difficult, and critical challenges:  the relationship between development and land consumption patterns and economic performance; the need to add jobs and population while protecting our natural beauty; the impact of political fragmentation on economic growth and competitiveness.  By identifying and spotlighting an honoree with vision and leadership, and a proven track record of success in fostering a better quality of life in the commonwealth, the Friend of Pennsylvania award informs and publicizes best practices that can be a model for future progress in Pennsylvania.

Recognizing the Good Idea 

The Commonwealth Awards event has two goals – to honor the best projects and individuals, and to share the best ideas and practices in smart growth. Once again we will have an outstanding speaker on a smart growth topic and we will feature a poster session with the award winners so you can learn more about their outstanding projects. We expect the 2011 Commonwealth Awards program to be our most comprehensive yet and anticipate over 200 participants.
