April 2009 -- Welcome to Spring in Pennsylvania

Dear Friends,

Welcome to spring in Pennsylvania! Despite continuing gloomy economic reports and sometimes depressing news stories, there's something about a sunny spring morning that renews your outlook and restores your belief that at least for the moment, things are looking up.

And speaking of renewal, check out our new website at www.10000friends.org. We've freshened the design (new logo too!) and added new features like a direct link to your legislators and a contribute, or purchase on- line feature. Now, you can easily communicate with your legislators about the important issues that 10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania advocates on and you can register for events on-line too. The web-site is a work in progress, please be patient as we fine tune it and add more information. And, as always, we are interested in your comments and helpful suggestions.

One good reason for a brighter outlook and an event to look forward to is 10,000 Friends upcoming Commonwealth Awardsprogram. Scheduled for June 9th at The Whitaker Center in Harrisburg, it's a can't miss event. We've added a keynote speaker, Chris Leinberger, one of the foremost thought leaders on smart growth, and we'll have poster sessions where you can speak directly to the design awards finalists about their projects.

By the way, even in a less than stellar development market, we have received 31 entries in the design awards categories! Our illustrious panel of judges has their work cut for them.

Look for your invitation to the Commonwealth Awards in your mailbox or visit our new website and register directly on line. Consider this your personal invitation from us to attend the Commonwealth Awards. We want to see all of our 10,000 Friends there!

Sincerely,

Judy Schwank
