The Commonwealth Awards is 10,000 Friends’ signature program recognizing great development projects and initiatives – and the people and organizations that make them happen.  It is the only statewide smart growth award program in Pennsylvania. Through the Commonwealth Awards, 10,000 Friends seeks to celebrate innovation and excellence in land use and development and the ground-breaking projects and initiatives that are shaping our future growth and prosperity – the kinds of investments that breathe new life into neighborhoods, increase opportunities in communities on the rise, and find new uses for vacant and underutilized land.

This year’s event will focus on the catalytic impact that an entrepreneurial developer collaborating with civic leadership – and many other partners – can have on a city through creative, block-by-block, square-by-square mixed-use projects, providing affordable housing, establishing art, restaurant, and music venues, while stimulating the commercial and civic life of the city.

In addition to honoring RSDC, Inc. with the inaugural Louis J. Appell Award,  10,000 Friends will present Commonwealth Awards to other leading private sector companies and non-profit institutions, including Think Loud Development, York College, One West, Keystone Color Works, and Better York, among others to be announced, whose projects and initiatives have made outstanding contributions to the City of York.  This year’s event will send a strong message to other small Pennsylvania cities that, though they may not be Austin or Charlotte, they absolutely can change the face of their city.  York’s renaissance proves that with exemplary private sector leadership, collaborating with community partners and local government, smaller cities can create safe, walkable, urban places with the vitality and authenticity that attracts new residents, young and old alike, and new commercial activity.

Please consider becoming an event sponsor and supporting 10,000 Friends’ celebration of York!
