Market Street Elevated Subway Stations

Public Infrastructure Projects
Through this project, five transit stations in West Philadelphia were constructed to replace the 100 year-old stations that had outgrown their useful life. The design of the new stations aimed to make them more attractive to transit riders while maintaining the values and character of the neighborhood. Special consideration was made to ensure natural light and air circulation along the guideways, improving the streetscape below the tracks. These stations were designed to be a symbol of neighborhood pride and to spur further revitalization. This project ensures that that this century old transit line will continue to serve the people of Philadelphia for many years to come.
