Philadelphia Citizens Planning Institute Offering Pilot Course

September 27, 2010

The Citizens Planning Institute, funded by a grant from the William Penn Foundation, will kick off this fall with a three-evening pilot course offered on November 4, 11, and 18, 6:00pm-9:00pm at the Community College of Philadelphia’s Center for Business & Industry at 18th and Callowhill Street.

The CPI’s mission is to empower citizens to take a more effective and active role in shaping the future of their neighborhoods and of Philadelphia, through a greater understanding of city planning and the development process. It is the formal education and outreach arm of the Philadelphia City Planning Commission.

The pilot course will be interactive and collaborative. Course material will include practical tools individuals can take back to neighborhood organizations to catalyze positive change. Phase II of the program in 2011, will provide “citizen planner” certification, with the development of a series of electives supplementing the core course. More information and an Application form (due October 11) will be available when the website is launched in mid-September- http://citizensplanninginstitute.org/
